The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's Landmark Series serves as a tribute to the heritage of America's great rock & roll venues. Rock & Roll hit America like a bolt of lightning and then spread this wildfire from city to city, igniting a generation. As each city developed its own unique music scene and its own voice, the most significant people, bands, talent, and energy driving rock & roll forward, all gravitated to just a handful of key venues scattered across the country. These were the places where the heart of this music beat the strongest. Each venue sparked new sounds and voices entirely unique to their place and time and added their own energy and contributions to rock & roll music. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recognizes the significance of these places that played an important roll in rock history and declares their stages sacred ground. To date, 10 sites have been selected that are integral in telling the story of rock & roll's formative moments. As a part of the designation, the Rock Hall has hosted panel discussions to illustrate the historic site's particular impact and integrates what was happening socially, politically, and historically at the time into a lecture or classroom setting for teachers, students, and the public. 1. Brooklyn High School (Cleveland, Ohio) - Elvis Presley's first appearance above the Mason-Dixon line 9. WEWS-TV (Cleveland, Ohio) - Site of the Upbeat television show 10. WJW-AM radio station (Cleveland, Ohio) - Alan Freed's Cleveland radio station
