Biography / Administrative History
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is at the forefront of bringing popular culture into the classroom. The Museum's educational programs reach hundreds of thousands of students of all ages and teach them how music has played a role in some of the most important social, cultural and political issues in modern history. The Museum also offers teachers many opportunities to learn how to energize their classrooms with popular music. Workshops, institutes, and forums demonstrate ways to integrate popular music across the disciplines so that students meet and exceed educational standards. Through its educational programs, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum explores how music has intersected with our culture, changed our political landscape, and given a voice to those on the margins of mainstream society. This effort to bring pop culture into the academic world is crucial, as critical dialogues in our world are increasingly happening through--and with--modern music. In 2012, the Community Outreach and Community Festivals programs moved from the Planning and Institutional Relations Division into an arm of the Education division, whereby the name was changed to the Education and Public Programs Division. Also in 2012, the Library and Archives was moved from the Curatorial Division, where it had been for 2 years since its completion, to the Education and Public Programs Division.
