Biography / Administrative History
The Grateful Dead formed in 1965 and is one of the most enduring American rock bands of all time. The band fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, and psychedelia. They are known for their live performances and long improvisation and have never played the same setlist twice. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Scope and Contents
The Nickole and Larry Mays Grateful Dead Audio Recordings contain two audiocassettes of live Grateful Dead performances dated 1980 and 1984. The audiocassettes were recorded by Tom Simons, the donor's father, who taped several hundred Grateful Dead shows on his own Nakamichi cassette recorder. The performances took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York and Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
