Scope and Contents
The Joshua Levy Illustrated Prints or Jerry Garcia span the dates 2018 to 2020 and include 3 limited edition screen-printed images of Jerry Garcia inspired by the iconic Baron Wolman photograph, "Jerry". The first print, "Jerry" (2018), is a limited edition (2/50) 18"x 24" screen print on 140lb paper of an original ink drawing by artist, Joshua Levy of The Asheville Art Family, Asheville, North Carolina. The work was commissioned for Garcia's, the lobby bar at the Capitol Theatre in Portchester, New York, and generated enough interest that Levy requested and received authorization from Baron Wolman to produce prints of this and the following two variants in exchange for 15% of any profits. The second print, "Jerry" (2018), is a limited edition (55/55) 18"x 24" variant screen-printed on "Swirl3" foil. In June of 2020, Levy, with production support from New England based artist and producer, Martin Coyle, created the world's largest fine art vanity blotter art print. "Jerry Rainbow Splatter" (2020), is a limited edition (89/100) 17"x 22" vanity blotter art print, perforated into 5,984 American squares. All three prints are signed and numbered by the artist. The collection exemplifies the psychedelic style of art inspired by 1960s San Francisco area music and counterculture, with particular regard to how it is viewed and remembered through the lens of Baron Wolman, the first principal photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine and one of the preeminent photo journalists of the rock and roll music scene.
