The Jimi Imij Digital Video Collection ranges from 1977 to 2017 and undated materials. The files are organized into three series that contain digital videos, audio, and images of local and national acts in the Northeast Ohio area. The Digital Video series consists of live music recordings, music videos and interviews. The Digital Audio series is comprised of digitized cassettes containing recordings of live music, practice sessions, and studio recorded music. The collection overall documents the rock music culture in the Kent, OH, and Akron, OH, areas with emphasis on the 1980s. This collection was donated as part of the NEO Sound Film & Video Preservation Day at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Library and Archives, in Cleveland, OH.
Biography / Administrative History
Jimi Imij has been in the Akron, OH and Kent, OH music scene since the early 1980s as a vocalist, guitarist, and bassist in bands such as Zero Defects, Lester, PPG, Plasma Alliance, Urban Mutants, Tormentors, and others. He is a music enthusiast and has recorded and photographed many bands in the Northeast Ohio area. Imij is a board member for The “Akron Sound” Museum, contributes to the Cleveland Memory Project and manages his own Ohio Hystairical Musick Society (O.H.M.S.), which is dedicated to preserving and presenting local music.
