Series 1: Photographs spans the years 1890 to 2009 and includes undated material and reproductions of older photographs. The photographs cover a wide range of musical genres and styles, including blues, folk, alternative, country, rock, and world music; relevant festivals and organizations; as well as imagery related to a variety of social and political issues, including the civil and women's rights movements, labor rights, economic and social justice, freedom of assembly, and the anti-nuclear and anti-war movements. The photographs are particularly rich in images of women and minorities in music. Please note: while the series is primarily photographs, other types of materials can be found, including documents, drawings, letters, and clippings. These items were left with the photographs to preserve the original order of the collection. The series is arranged alphabetically.
