Biography / Administrative History
Prince (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer, actor and filmmaker. Known for his magnetic performances, flamboyant style, and vocal range, Prince was an expert guitarist, pianist, bassist and drummer by junior high. He released dozens and dozens of albums throughout his nearly 40-year career. He also invented the "Minneapolis sound," an electric and eclectic funk/R&B/synthrock hybrid that became massively influential in the '80s and beyond. Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
