Biography / Administrative History
Gerry Goffin (February 11, 1939-June 19, 2014) was an American songwriter who partnered with Carole King to write a string of classic hits for a variety of artists during the 1960s. A brief sampling of their works include, “Up On the Roof” (the Drifters), “One Fine Day” (the Chiffons), “I’m Into Something Good” (Herman’s Hermits), “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” (the Shirelles), “Take Good Care of My Baby” (Bobby Vee), “Chains” (the Cookies), “Don’t Bring Me Down” (the Animals), “Take a Giant Step” (the Monkees) and “Goin’ Back” (the Byrds). Goffin continued to write after he and King divorced in 1968 for and with others, including Barry Mann and Jack Keller. Goffin and King were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
