- Scope and ContentsThe "Ah! Leah" Lyrics collection consists of a single sheet of handwritten lyrics to the Donnie Iris song "Ah! Leah", written circa 1980. The lyrics are written on the back of a recording session log from Jeree Records. Many numbers are written to the side of stanzas or lines of lyrics, which likely correspond to the point on the original tape reel where that line occurs in the song. There is also writing within the recording studio log on the back of the page. The item provides insight into aspects of the recording process from the point of view of a musician/songwriter.
- Biography / Administrative HistoryMark Avsec was a keyboard player with the bands Wild Cherry and Breathless, and became a founding member of Donnie Iris & the Cruisers in 1979. He worked as a producer and performer with the band and served as their head of business and legal affairs. He wrote or co-wrote more than 300 songs for Donnie Iris and other artists, including Bon Jovi. Avsec and Iris’ song, “Ah! Leah”, became the subject of a court case when Avsec and Iris were sued for copyright infringement. They won the case, and Avsec subsequently obtained a law degree and became a practicing attorney, specializing in intellectual property law.
