Scope and Contents
The Delmore Brothers Collection contains items that highlight the career of this country music duo. There is one clipping of an advertisement for their song "Hillbilly Boogie," from a 1946 issue of Billboard magazine. A contemporary press kit put together by Alton Delmore's youngest daughter Debby rounds out the collection with a set of prints showing the brothers in various poses, and includes a cast photo from the 1936 Grand Ole Opry. The collection is arranged alphabetically by format.
Biography / Administrative History
The Delmore Brothers were a country music duo comprised of two brothers: Alton and Rabon Delmore. Their 1946 song "Freight Train Boogie" is a contender for the first rock and roll record, and they influenced many of the early rock and roll stars in the 1950s. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
