Louder Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story Interviews are comprised of 22 audiocassettes and 7 DVDs dated 2007-2008, including some undated cassettes, that were used in the making of the music documentary “Louder Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story” (2012). The interviews are hosted by journalist Jason Schmitt and include artists such as Kid Rock, Wayne Kramer, Mitch Ryder, Ted Nugent, Slash, and Tom Morello. The interviews also include concert promoters and disc jockeys from the local Detroit metropolitan area. The documentary focuses on the Detroit rock scene in the late 1960s and is told through the eyes and voices of these musician interviews. The Grande Ballroom became an epicenter of the rock venue scene in the Midwest and was frequented by famous artists Led Zeppelin, Cream, B. B. King, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Who. The audiocassettes and DVDs are arranged in alphabetical order by the interviewee. This collection overall provides insight into American popular music of Detroit in the late 1960’s.
Biography / Administrative History
Jason Schmitt is an American journalist from Dearborn, Michigan who is known for his extensive interviews of rock celebrities. He is accredited as the primary interviewer and field producer for the documentary “Louder Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story”.
