Jesse Stone (November 1, 1901-April 1, 1999) was an American rhythm and blues musician and songwriter whose songs were highly influential for a wide range of genres. Under the pseudonym of Charles E. Calhoun, Stone wrote some of his best-known compositions including “Shake, Rattle, and Roll.” Recorded by Big Joe Turner in 1954, “Shake, Rattle and Roll” is often cited as one of the first rock and roll records.
