Biography / Administrative History
In 1976, Cleveland truck drivers Jim Kluter, John Kusznier, Joey Juhasz, and Bill Spratt traveled to Asbury Park, New Jersey, to track down Bruce Springsteen. They happened across Springsteen during their visit, and ended up playing a baseball game with him and his band mates. Springsteen thereafter dubbed them the "Cleveland Boys." That first visit turned into additional invitations to play ball, hang out, and stay at the artist's rented house. Springsteen dedicated songs to the "Cleveland Boys" at shows all over the nation. They can even be heard singing a lyric during "Jungleland" at Springsteen's 1978 show at the Cleveland Agora. More information on Springsteen and the Boys can be found in the collection.
