Scope and Contents
The Ron Byrd Collection of Tour Itineraries are for the 1999 Hard Knock Life Tour. The collection contains four itineraries, two for part one of the tour (February and March 1999) and the other two for part two of the tour (April and May 1999). The tour featured Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man, and Redman. The collection provides insight into the tour process for Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man, and Redman. The collection is arranged chronologically.
Biography / Administrative History
Ron Byrd is a tour and production manager at R. L. Byrd and Associates, Inc.
Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is a 19-time Grammy award-winning rapper, making his debut in 1995. Carter served as President and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, where he fostered the careers of international stars Rihanna, Kanye West, and many others before entering into a partnership with Live Nation, forming the entertainment company, Roc Nation.
Earl “DMX” Simmons began his rapping career in the early 1990s. He released his debut album, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998. Since his debut, DMX has released seven studio albums.
Clifford “Method Man” Smith Jr. is a one-time Grammy award-winning rapper. He is a member of the East Coast hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan. He took his stage name from the 1979 film Method Man. Smith is also well known for his collaborations with his close friend Redman, as one-half of the rap duo Method Man & Redman.
Reginald “Redman” Noble is an American rapper and DJ. He rose to fame in the early 1990s as an artist on the Def Jam label. He was also a member of the Def Squad in the late 1990s.
