- Biography / Administrative HistoryVee-Jay Records was a record label based in Gary, Indiana, that specialized in blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. Founded in 1953, some of its major acts included John Lee Hooker, Memphis Slim, Jimmy Reed, and the Dells. Vee-Jay then found success in rock and roll with the Four Seasons, as well as the Beatles, when they acquired the rights to several of that group's early recordings. In 1965 the label experienced financial difficulties, which led them to file for bankruptcy the following year.
