- Scope and ContentsThe Eddie Araya Hip-Hop Collection spans the years 1995 to 2000 and includes some undated materials. The collection mostly consists of ephemera from the Washington, D.C. hip-hop scene, including zines, trading cards, stickers, publications, programs, posters, postcards, photographs, invitations/passes, handbills, flyers, clippings, CD inserts, and album flats. There are a few items documenting the Baltimore and College Park, Maryland scenes. All of the materials are promotional in nature. A few major hip-hop acts are featured in the materials: Afrika Bambaata, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Fugees, Ice T, KMD, Kut Master Kurt, Mos Def, Nas, Raekwon, the Roots, Rza, Tupac Shakur, and Tribe Called Quest. The collection specifically documents the D.C. hip-hop scene of the 1990s, but, viewed more broadly, also illustrates hip-hop culture of that time through the artwork and advertising techniques.
