Scope and Contents
The William Oldfield Collection of Posters and Newspapers consist of 59 promotional posters used by record companies for advertising and in-store displays from 1975 and 1978 to 1982, with the bulk of the material spanning 1978-1982. Performers featured include Blondie, Cheap Trick, John Cougar, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, the Romantics, Linda Ronstadt, the Who, and Neil Young. Also included in the collection are newspapers chronicling the shooting and death of John Lennon and Devo-related vandalism. The posters in the collection provide a glimpse into record company promotion during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
