- Scope and ContentsThe Ton-E Watson Photographs span the years 1994-1997 and consist of 61 images of black artists performing in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Artists featured include Arrested Development, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Chuck D (Public Enemy), George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, De La Soul, Eazy-E (N.W.A.), Lenny Kravitz, Men at Large, Me'Shell NdegéOcello, Rahsaan Patterson, and Redman. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Men at Large are both originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Venues featured in the photographs include the Agora, Odeon, and Peabody's Down Under. The images of Chuck D and Men at Large were taken at an unidentified charity event in East Cleveland; while the images of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Eazy-E were taken while shooting the video for the song, "Thuggish Ruggish Bone." The collection highlights performances by black artists from various genres (funk, hip hop, rhythm and blues, and soul) who were influential on the music scene during the mid-1990s. The collection is arranged first by size of photograph, then alphabetically by artist.
- Biography / Administrative HistoryTon-E Watson is a freelance photographer based out of Jacksonville, Florida. His work has appeared in the Jacksonville Times-Union, Blues Wax Weekly (the online version of Blues Revue), and on jacksonville.com.
