The "Biggest Show of Stars for '60" Window Card is a jumbo window card for performances on May 17, 1960 at the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin, by Little Anthony and the Imperials, Lavern Baker, the Coasters, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Jones, Clyde McPhatter, Jimmy Reed, Joe Turner, Sammy Turner, and Lloyd Price and His Biggest Show of Stars Orchestra with Harold Cromer as master of ceremonies. The item provides a glimpse into the types of acts that appeared at the Orpheum, and the billings they received. Seen in a broader context, the window card provides insights to musicians that performed during the early-1960s, and the types of venues at which they performed.
Biography / Administrative History
The "Biggest Show of Stars for '60" was presented by the General Artist Corporation® (GAC). The GAC is an artist management company in business since 1941. No information could be found on this leg of the tour; however, a <title render="italic">Billboard</title> article from September 26, 1960 advertised a fall tour for "GAC presents the Biggest Show of Stars for '60," which ran from October 2 to November 6, featuring a different set of "Hot 100" talent. The fall tour was set to run through Midwestern, Southern, and Eastern portions of the country, beginning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
