Scope and Contents
The Freda Kelly Collection contains photographic reproductions of seven black-and-white photographs of the Beatles from the 1960s. A number of the images are of Paul McCartney alone. The collection also contains a photocopied letter, dated January 30, 1963, from Brian Epstein to Dave Moores regarding a Beatles appearance in Stowe, as well as 14 photocopies of telegrams sent to Kelly and Brian Norris upon their nuptials in April 1968.
Biography / Administrative History
Freda Kelly worked for the Beatles for 11 years--she was with the band longer than they were a band--hired by Brian Epstein in 1962 before Beatlemania exploded, and running their fan club even after they disbanded. Kelly met Epstein and the band when she was running their fan club out of her home. Her monthly dispatches for the Beatles mailouts, signed "Tarrah For Now, Freda Kelly," ranged from innocuous updates about George Harrison's dental work to a full-on finger-wagging at fans who judged the band members' private lives. After Kelly wrapped up the fan club to concentrate on raising her children, she stayed in touch with the Beatles family, but they mostly all went their separate ways.
