Biography / Administrative History
Dr. Hugo A. Keesing is a pop music collector, historian, archivist, and teacher. He taught for 15 years at the University of Maryland, College Park. To support his teaching, he began a serious collection of rock books which became the foundation of the Keesing Musical Archives: a collection of nearly 4,000 books, 15,000 records, and 17,000 pieces of sheet music.
Scope and Contents
The Hugo Keesing Collection consists of trading card sets from 1956 to 1993 and a copy of Keesing's "The Incomplete Pop/Rock Bibliography." Artists prominently featured in the collection include: The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and The Rolling Stones. Rock and roll trading cards feature classic tour posters, album covers, rare and promotional photos, and trivia spanning decades of rock and roll history, and this collection provides generous examples of these cards through the years and across musical genres. The Hugo Keesing Collection is organized alphabetically by artist or brand of trading card. The bibliography and other non-card formats are stored separately.
