Scope and Contents
The Joe Buchwald Papers span the years 1967 to 1990, and include some undated material. The Papers includes artist agreements, correspondence regarding demo tapes and royalties, contracts, legal materials related to royalties disputes with RCA, and attorney billing statements. Some of the material in this collection is related to Buchwald as father, manager, and executive producer for Marty Balin, the founder and one of the lead vocalists for Jefferson Airplane.
Biography / Administrative History
Joe Buchwald is the father and one-time manager and executive producer to Marty Balin, founder and one of the lead vocalists for the Jefferson Airplane. Buchwald is also founder and owner of Diamond Back Music Company (formerly, Great Pyramid Music and Diamond Back-Great Pyramid Music), a record producing, music publishing, and artist management firm. Marty Balin Music, a musical instrument dealer, is a subsidiary of the Diamond Back Music Company, located in San Francisco, Ca.
