Scope and Contents
The Lollapalooza Festival Press Release and Poster consists of one press release from June 17, 1991 for the August 5, 1991 concert at Blossom Music Center, and a concert poster that was sold at the 1991 festival. The concert poster features artwork by Grant Blaha of Autodesk, Inc. Performers listed on the poster include the Butthole Surfers, Ice-T, Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, the Rollins Band, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The collection provides information on the August 5, 1991 Lollapalooza Festival concert at Blossom Music Center, the ninth stop on the tour during the Festival's first year. Seen in a broader context, the collection provides insight to how festivals were promoted in the early 1990s and serves as a reference to artists that played during that era.
Biography / Administrative History
Lollapalooza is an annual music festival, originally conceived in 1991 by singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band, Jane's Addiction. The festival toured until 1997, and was revived in 2003. The 2004 tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Since 2005, Lollapalooza has had a permanent home in Chicago's Grant Park, usually taking place in August. In 2011, a branch of the festival was staged in Santiago, Chile on April 2-3, 2011.
