The Eric Caidin Collection of Photographs spans the 1950s to 2007 and includes some undated material. The Collection consists of black-and-white and color photographs of artists, mostly promotional in nature. The images include items from Caidin's inventory at the Hollywood Book and Poster Company, Hollywood, Ca. The Collection provides visual evidence of how record labels marketed artists over the course of six decades and across musical genres, including country, R&B, soul, jazz, rockabilly, American and British pop, surf rock, classic rock, blues-rock, psychedelia, folk, funk, heavy metal, glam, southern rock, garage rock, acid rock, punk rock, progressive rock, death rock, alternative rock, art rock, post-punk, new wave, and grunge. Focuses of the Collection include the Beatles, the Clash, Cream, Bobby Darin, Deep Purple, Devo, Donovan, Michael Jackson, Joan Jett, Tom Jones, the Kinks, KISS, the "Rat Pack," the Rolling Stones, the Runaways, the Seeds, X, and the Yardbirds. Of particular note is an image of Cannibal and The Headhunters, known as one of the first Mexican-American groups to have a national hit record, "Land of a Thousand Dances." The Eric Caidin Collection of Photographs is arranged alphabetically by artist. Each folder contains only one image, unless otherwise noted in the inventory.
Biography / Administrative History
Eric Caidin is the owner of Hollywood Book and Poster Company. The company was opened in 1977 to serve collectors and fans of film, television, music, and wrestling. They have an extensive collection of stills available for purchase, along with a wide selection of current and classic movie posters, film and television scripts, books and magazines, postcards, t-shirts, videos, DVDs, standees, Mexican wrestling masks, and many more items of interest to the collector.
