Scope and Contents
The Mark Petty Photograph of Bob Dylan is an image of Dylan taken by Petty in Pensacola, Florida at the University Of West Florida on April 28, 1976, during the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. The photo was subsequently published in Rolling Stone. The collection provides an image of Dylan as he played live during 1976. Seen in a broader context, the collection provides insight to live concert photojournalism in the mid-1970s and the styles and techniques that were used.
Biography / Administrative History
Mark Petty is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor of Journalism in photojournalism from the University of Missouri in the early 1970s and worked for newspapers and on a freelance basis throughout the decade. In the 1980s, he became an attorney but continued his photography. In the summer of 2000, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and is now devoted to photography full time again. He has photographed a wide array of subjects, from Bob Dylan and Katharine Hepburn to Vietnamese refugees and gravediggers.
