- Scope and ContentsThe David Russell Collection spans the years 1978 to 2003, with the bulk of the collection dating between 1985 and 1995. The collection consists of tour production materials, including detailed documents about productions, personnel, and stage design; personal files with information about Russell's life on tour; and graphic materials that add a visual landscape to the collection--the stage blueprints are of particular note. The collection provides unique insight to the intricate process of producing concerts and world tours for major artists. Bands covered by the materials include Bon Jovi, Cher, Peter Gabriel, Janet Jackson, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Tina Turner, and Roger Waters.
- Biography / Administrative HistoryDavid Russell was born in Fairview Park, Ohio. Russell spent over 30 years as a tour manager and production manager for rock and roll tours. While attending Kent State University, he worked for the Stokes Brothers, providing lights and P.A. systems for concerts. He later became a freelance production and tour manager. Over the course of his career, Russell managed tours for the B-52s, Jon Bon Jovi, Cher, Bryan Ferry, Peter Gabriel, Janet Jackson, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., the Talking Heads, and Tina Turner. He was also the production manager for the Benefit Concert for Nelson Mandela at Wembley Stadium. Russell died in Hudson, Ohio on March 24, 2005.
