- Scope and ContentsThe Atlantic Recording Corporation Records span the years 1956 to 1989. The Records showcase the role of Artist and Repertoire (A&R) representative Yves Beauvais, and highlight portions of the history of Atlantic Records. The collection includes Beauvais' artist files, correspondence, ephemera, photographs, printer's proofs and sketches, and a studio log book. The artist files provide details about the recording process and Beauvais' interaction with artists. The ephemera, printing proofs, and sketches illustrate the planning and execution of album and record artwork. Featured in the collection are the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin--two of Atlantic's most successful groups--as well as AC/DC, Ruth Brown, Buffalo Springfield, John Coltrane, Bobby Darin, the Drifters, Aretha Franklin, Arif Mardin, Charles Mingus, the Modern Jazz Quartet, Otis Redding, and Sam and Dave.
- Biography / Administrative HistoryYves Beauvais worked for the Atlantic Recording Corporation from 1983 to 2000. He was the Vice President of Catalog Development. He was later promoted to Vice President / Jazz and A&R and was responsible for supervising the company's jazz activities.
- Timeline1947: Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson cofound Atlantic Records in New York City.
1948: Label releases first records.
1956: Neshui Ertegun joins Atlantic, focusing primarily on jazz and soul recordings.
1958: Signs Bobby Darin.
1960s: Signs Aretha Frankiln, Otis Redding, Solomon Burke, Wilson Pickett, and many other artists, dominating the soul music revolution.
1967: Label is sold to Warner-Seven Arts, but Ahmet Ertegun retains creative control of the company.
1965: Signs Sonny and Cher; moving Atlantic further into pop music.
Late-1960s: Signs major groundbreaking rock bands, including Buffalo Springfield, Eric Clapton, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Buffalo Springfield, Yes, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
1971: Signs the Rolling Stones.
1980s-1990s: Continues to be a major force in the music industry, releasing many successful rock and pop records.
