The Radio Airchecks span the years 1962 to 2001, with some undated materials and the bulk of the collection falling between 1962 and 1977. The collection consists of 85 airchecks in the form of digital WAV and MP3 files. The files are arranged here alphabetically by radio station and then by disc jockey. The radio stations included in the collection are, for the most part, Los Angeles-based, but there are other stations from California (Berkeley, Glendale, San Francisco) and Michigan (Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Jackson), as well as Tucson, Arizona; Tampa Bay, Florida; Boston, Massachusetts; Roswell, New Mexico; New York, New York; Fargo, North Dakota; Portland, Oregon; Tyler, Texas; and Seattle, Washington. Disc jockeys featured include Dick Biondi, Tom and Raechel Donahue, Bob Eubanks, Flo & Eddie, Humble Harve, Casey Kasem, Art Laboe, Wink Martindale, Robert W. Morgan, Murray the K, Gary Owens, John Peel, Jimmy Rabbitt, B. Mitchell Reed, Dusty Rhodes, Brother John Rydgren, Lee Baby Simms, China Smith, Don Steele, Shadoe Stevens, Sly Stone, Charlie Tuna, and Wolfman Jack. Radio airchecks serve as audio snapshots, illustrating the evolution of a disc jockey or particular radio station over time. Additionally, airchecks can act as audio time capsules--reflecting the sounds and culture of specific time periods through the patter, news breaks, music, and commercials.
