James Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. Brown influenced a number of music genres and can be tied to the soul music of the 1960s, the funk music of the 1970s, and even rap music of the 1980s. Beginning as a gospel singer, Brown first gained attention with the Famous Flames with rhythm & blues in the 1950s and 1960s. By the early 1970s, Brown would establish the funk sound. Although his influence waned in the late 1970s, he would gain recognition again as the forefather of rap. His records were more heavily sampled by rap and hip-hop acts than those of any other artist. Brown was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

The collection consists of one ticket for James Brown at the Kentucky Fairgrounds in Louisville, Kentucky on May 4, 1971.
