Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were an American rock band formed in Gainesville, Florida, in 1976 by vocalist/guitarist Tom Petty, lead guitarist Mike Campbell, keyboardist Benmont Tench, drummer Stan Lynch, and bassist Ron Blair. Over a career spanning four decades, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released thirteen studio albums, becoming one of America’s most recognizable rock bands. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. The group remained active until Tom Petty’s death in October 2017, at which point they officially disbanded.
