- Biography / Administrative HistoryCleveland Scene was founded in 1970 as The Scene, an entertainment-focused free weekly newspaper. From the 1970s through the 1990s, it was known simply as Scene, and had the phrase Entertainment Weekly as a subtitle. After a change in ownership in 1999, the publication added a local news feature story, which acts as an alternative to the daily newspaper in Cleveland, the Plain Dealer. The publication is currently known as Cleveland Scene and owned by the Euclid Media Group.
- Scope and ContentsThe Cleveland Scene Photographs contain promotional and concert photographs collected and used by Scene magazine from the 1970s through approximately 2006. Photos dated earlier exist throughout the collection, and there is one file that dates from 2008. The collection is split into national touring acts and those from Northeast Ohio. This separation retains the original order as filed by Scene. The concert photographs will be of interest to researchers studying Cleveland's rock and roll history, and the promotional photographs will be useful to anyone looking for images of popular bands during the last quarter of the 20th century.
- NotesAcquisition Note: The Cleveland Scene Photographs were received by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc., as a gift from Cleveland Scene on September 8, 2014.
