Biography / Administrative History
Reginald Kenneth Dwight (born March 25, 1947) is one of the most successful music artists of the modern era. A multifaceted talent, John excels as both a ballad-oriented singer/songwriter and a flamboyant rock and roll star. In June of 1969, he released his debut album, Empty Sky, but he did not achieve stardom until the 1972 release of Honky Chateau, John’s first American number one album. John’s concerts, singles, and albums were incredibly popular throughout the 1970s. He was the consummate live entertainer, providing a splashy, larger-than-life visual spectacle to complement his music. Although his recording and performance pace slowed down in the 1980s and 1990s, John continued to achieve hits. John has also achieved success in musical films and theatre, composing the music for The Lion King and its stage adaptation, Aida and Billy Elliot the Musical. Elton John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
